Bilingual School

Christian School Kandern/Christliche Schule Kandern (CSK) was founded in 2009. Black Forest Academy and Freie Evangelische Schule of Lörrach partnered to form Germany’s first Christian bilingual school. Currently grades 1-3 are part of CSK but in 2012-2013, grade 4 will be included in the bilingual program. Grade 5 will remain an English program.

An All-Day School

CSK offers an all-day program. The curriculum is based on the educational requirements of the state of Baden-Württemberg where the school is located. The joint curriculum CSK follows has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of German law and to prepare English speakers for further education in an American system.

Bilingual Education

Students at CSK learn in a bilingual and bicultural environment. Languages are taught by experienced German speaking and English speaking teachers. Lessons incorporate themes from both cultures. Students are taught to read and write in their mother tongue first and then these skills are introduced in the partner language. Some subjects are taught in German and some in English. Math instruction will always be in German as required by local law.

The Weekly Schedule

The weekly schedule at CSK includes:

  • Daily devotions and prayer time
  • Instruction in mother tongue and in the partner language
  • Instruction in Bible, math, science and social studies
  • Daily read-aloud time
  • Weekly visits to the library
  • Music classes, choir, art lessons
  • Physical Education (P.E.)
  • Classes and play time to enhance positive social behavior

Where are we located?

CSK is located in Wollbach, Germany, a village about 6 kilometers south of Kandern where Black Forest Academy is located.

Partnering school

FES is the sponsoring school and overseer of CSK. It has a current attendance of over 1700 students in its state recognized schools in Lörrach, Schopfheim, Kandern and Waldshut.

Tuition fees are based on your income. Please refer to the fee schedule. There is a hot lunch option for parents who desire this for their child.

How we can be Globally Minded

By learning with both German and English speaking children and teachers, we introduce children to the unique qualities of each culture and encourage a natural interaction with people of different nationalities. The students at CSK are exposed to a wide range of opportunities in order to develop a broadened world view and a better understanding of God and His world.
