Rachel Bertschi

M.S. - Science and Math, Teacher

A Midwest girl, Rachel was born in Indiana, raised in Ohio, attended college in Illinois, and accepted her first teaching job in Indiana. Children have always been dear to her heart, and while on a brief missions trip to Costa Rica in 2003 Rachel realized the possibility of combining her love for children with her heart for missions. She attended Moody Bible Institute (MBI) with the intention of serving the greater missionary community through education. During her time at MBI she enjoyed teaching pre-k Sunday School as well as tutoring middle school students at Humboldt Community Christian School. After graduation she taught for one year at Peace Lutheran School in Greencastle, Indiana while raising the necessary support to serve at BFA.

Rachel has been on staff at BFA since 2009. Though she came to BFA to teach math, she's since discovered her true love: science! Rachel teaches Math 6 as well as Science 7 (Life Science) and Science 8 (Earth Science).

Kristi Dahlstrom

Kristi Dahlstrom

H.S. - English, Teacher

Like all true Seattle English majors, Kristi has spent time serving coffee and doing office work, but her true passion has always been working with young people. She taught in the Seattle Public School District at Ingraham High School for four years, covering English, journalism and literacy at all grade levels. She also spent time volunteering with the youth group at Bethany Community Church and in student discipleship at Seattle Pacific University. More recently, she has also served in the summer at Torchbearer Ministry’s Tauernhof Bible School as an Upward Bound instructor.

Home Base:
Seattle, Washington

Educational Background:
B.A. English, Seattle Pacific University, 2006
Residency Teaching Certificate, Seattle Pacific University, 2006
Professional Teaching Certificate, Seattle Pacific University, 2010

Other Interests:
Kristi grew up in the Pacific Northwest at a retreat center designed to bring outdoor recreation and Bible teaching together for discipleship. While there she interacted with students from all over the world, coming from exotic places like Australia, Japan and Germany. Because of this, she developed a delight in international culture, language and travel, along with a healthy passion for hiking, camping and climbing in the outdoors. She loves words in every form—written, read and spoken—and loves every minute that she can spend sharing them with students, family or friends.
