Black Forest Academy has eight residence dormitories. They are spread among the beautiful towns and villages surrounding Kandern. Many of the dorms are converted guest houses, each with their own fascinating history. About half of BFA’s students live in dorms. While it can be difficult being away from family, the dorm has many advantages, like a immediate tight-knit community, support staff and help with homework.
Each dorm is overseen by a married couple, who act as Dorm Parents, and several Resident Assistants, men and women most often in their 20′s. The dorm’s staff oversee the workings of the dorm, make sure things run smoothly and keep parents informed. They do everything from cooking meals, to taking students to the doctors, to planning fun activities, to having heart-to-heart talks, to helping students manage money. As the parents and older siblings of each residence, they try to help their students succeed in all areas of life.
