Arrival & Departure Requirements
Submitting Travel Plans
Parents are responsible for making all travel arrangements for their children. Travel plans for dorm students must be submitted to BFA Residence Life by August 1st, 2017. These detailed plans must include all schedule information for each step of the student’s journey. For more details regarding travel information and expectations, please review the ResLife Parent Handbook and the school calendar.

Housing will not be provided for students arriving prior to the dorm opening dates listed below and on the school calendar. If a student will not be able to arrive on the dorm opening date, please contact the Residence Life Department.

Dorm & Room Assignment
Dorm & room assignments are finalized in late summer. Students and parents will be notified individually once their placement in a dorm is finalized.
Student Pickup and Dropoff
BFA will provide transportation to/from the following transportation hubs on the designated dorm opening and closing days:

Parent Housing
Parents and family visiting BFA are responsible for their housing during their stay. For more information on the accommodations available in the region, to complete a housing form, check out the Visiting BFA webpage.

Items to Bring
Students are to arrive at BFA with no more than 3 airplane bags, as storage within the dorms is limited. All clothing must be labeled with the student’s name. Please ensure that all clothing items conform to BFA’s dress code. For additional information regarding the dress code and other packing policies, please reference the HS Student Handbook.

Computer Requirements
For academic purposes, students are required to bring their own computing device. The device, either a personal computer or a tablet device, must be capable of internet access via WIFI, and must be able to run and effectively operate a word processing software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Mac’s Pages, etc). WIFI is provided in the public areas of each dorm. For details regarding proper use of electronic devices while at BFA, review the HS Student Handbook.

Physicals
All new students must submit a two page History and Physical Evaluation form during the application process. A physician or nurse practitioner must complete the form at the link below. This same physical can be used for Athletics if your child wants to compete in a Sport for 8th-12th grades. All sport physicals must be completed annually and at least 2 weeks before the beginning of each sport season. – DUE by August 1st, 2017.
All new and returning athletes 8th-12th grade must complete a two page History and Physical Evaluation form annually or at least 2 weeks before the beginning of each sport season. A physician or nurse practitioner must complete the form at the link below. Students will not be allowed to participate in or tryout for a sport unless they have a current physical on file. Orthodontic Care

Participation
All 9th-12th grade students are encouraged to play at least one interscholastic sport–and in fact, about sixty percent of the students do. Black Forest Academy students often play sports while maintaining a challenging academic schedule and participating in other co-curricular activities. If your child is considering participating in a sport, please complete the form below, so the athletic department can keep you and your child informed over the summer and throughout the school year.

Fall Practice
Practices will be held for fall sports beginning on the first day of school. Students are encouraged to attend the first day of practice, even if they are unsure of their long-term commitment. Students will not be allowed to participate in or tryout for a sport unless they have a physical on file that is less than one year old.
Fees
Students wishing to participate must pay a fee for each sport. The fee is necessary as extensive travel is required because of the locations and distances of the schools in the region (Western Europe). Contact BFA’s Athletic Director with any additional questions.

Middle School Co-Curricular Activities
Chrysalis
Thursdays | 19:30-21:00
All students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to participate in Chrysalis small groups. Chrysalis meets at BFA’s Kandern campus, where students are divided into small groups that are led by High School seniors. Activities will include games, small group discussion, and worship in the auditorium.
Intramural Sports
Tuesdays & Thursdays | 16:00-17:30
All Middle School students are encouraged to participate in the Intramural Sports program. Students will have the opportunity to compete in grade specific leagues, across multiple sports throughout the school year.
To cover the costs of running the Intramural Sports program, a fee of 30€ will be assessed to all students who choose to participate in the program.

BFA partners with Freie Evangelische Schule (a German Christian school) in the operation of Christliche Schule Kandern, a bilingual school for grades 1-4. For more information on CSK, contact Lydia Führe.
